J Cross' Hickory

Comb CH Happy Hollow's Rambler x Crawdad's Abbeville
December 2, 2005 - September 7, 2012

OFA Fair

This dog has made quite a nice hog dog. He's tough to beat in the woods. He handles a hog like a hound, running a track from one end to the other, but he's all catahoula when the hog is stopped. Hickory is learning to back up a little bit after a few "schoolings" by some rough boar
hogs in the woods. He's the only solid male that we own out of Rambler. Hickory is not overly aggressive baying. He has a similar hunting range as his sire, extremely long.

Hickory took a rough hit in the belly in March 2008 that caused severe internal damage but only a small cut on the outside. He continued to hunt, bayed some hogs, was "off" but not showing distress. After a slow decline and much doctoring and testing, an x-ray showed his liver, stomach and part of his intestine had been shoved through his diaphragm. He had surgery in July '08 to repair that damage and is showing evidence of full recovery. He was back in the woods with a hog bayed August 16th '08 - Hickory Nut's back in the game! This dog has tremendous heart and determination.

2009 will bring Hickory into a new ballgame, in late 2008 he was introduced to the world of working cattle, he seems to think it's pretty fun. We'll see how he progresses and start using him some to "test his mettle" in other avenues. (He's the dog with the red collar shown in the photos working cattle)

As of 5/08 Hickory has 7 NALC Championship points in Conformation.
